Join our Community

Our life together in community is an essential part of our belief that lives shared are lives transformed.

We believe that we are loved into life – the abundant life promised by Jesus – by developing warm, supportive and accepting relationships with God and one another. All community members, regardless of their area of responsibility, must, therefore, have some sense of calling to community and involve themselves in all aspects of its life.

We are currently looking for the following community members:

Our vision

  • To renew and serve the church (through conferences, holidays, retreats and events for local churches)
  • To build community
  • To be God’s welcome (to those who come and stay with us)

Who we are

Scargill House has a growing community who live and work together on the site. We all follow the Scargill pathway of life, with lots of encouragement and support from each other. We are supported by an excellent team of volunteers. We share experiences and we share our lives, with both guests and volunteers.

Ministry to our guests

We mix with and live alongside our guests - praying for them, joining in with some activities every week, and eating many of our meals in the communal dining room.  We are frequently involved with hosting, helping to create the programme, leading activities (spiritual/social), and more.

Work teams

Everybody belongs to a work team and has a particular job: House, Admin, Kitchen, Estate, Youth & Children, Pastoral, Conference or Maintenance. So we need people with skills in these areas.

Be developed & challenged

There are many opportunities to try new things, to be challenged and stretched and to discover what your gifts and strengths are. Being thrown together so closely with other people can be difficult, thrilling and an intense time of growth! God works powerfully through the community experience to heal, change and mature people.

How long for?

People usually come for a year or longer. We also take on some extra people to help out over the summer period (ideally three months).

What kind of people are we looking for?

You need to be fit and active, comfortable being with lots of people, keen to serve God, keen to serve others, and drawn to being part of a community.

Is there any kind of remuneration?

If you’re staying for a year or longer, you will usually be provided with your own room (there are a few houses for families). Food and accommodation are provided, and you will receive an allowance on top of that.

What's the next step?

Email us, or phone Di Stone for a chat on 01756 761236, and we can send you our application form.
