Born and brought up in Liverpool, I took a Secretarial Course on leaving school and became a PA / Secretary to a Director of a large drug firm.
I first visited Scargill as a teenager in 1958 to help get the house ready, before it opened the following summer. I came on a Teenagers Holiday week in 1959 and made a commitment, as a result of the challenge of the activities and their comparison to the challenge of the Christian life.
After completing a nurse training in London, I worked as a Sister, specialising in Open Heart Surgery until 1971 when I joined the Community at Scargill. I began on the Pantry Team, quite a change from being in charge of patients and nurses, but it was lovely not to be responsible for all the routines! During the last ten, of 31years on Community, I worked as a member of the Chaplaincy Team and my main role was as Partners Secretary. It was a real joy and privilege to get to know the Partners and work along side them as they supported and encouraged the ministry at Scargill.
I left Community in 2002 to take on the role of Director of a Charity which supports Christians in Palliative Care and many of the skills and gifts I honed at Scargill were used.
I am currently completing a Masters Degree in Transactional Analysis and work for a number of organisations including Cruse Bereavement Care, The Centre for Crisis Psychology, dealing with trauma work, and one day a week in the NHS at a local GP Surgery. I also have a small private practice.
It has been very exciting, (reminding me of my feelings in 1958) to be part of the
Scargill Movement Council and to work alongside others in bringing a new Scargill
into being for the 21st century. It has been wonderful to see God in action in the journey so far, and I look forward to all the good things and surprises he has in store for all who come to Scargill in the years ahead. |
