Much work and further consultation with local residents has taken place over the last few months. The plans have been amended significantly to address the concerns expressed. Simon Browning, Project Director, states “It has been good to see the level of interest in the plans for Scargill's future, and that concern has highlighted for us a number of important issues that we have now addressed carefully. Improvement and development are vital for Scargill House to continue as a much-loved retreat and residential Christian conference centre, and for it to be a valuable resource for Upper Wharfedale." We have reviewed all the objections received by the planning authority, and held various events at Scargill and in Kettlewell to give opportunities for local people and Scargill Friends and Companions to discuss the plans and their concerns about these. These has led to significant changes in over ten aspects of the project. Subject to the timing of final amendements and any further comments received, the plans will be re-submitted to the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority planning service by early September at the latest. Simon is keen to show the plans to as many people as possible prior to submission - please contact him via the office.
