Join a work party (or two!)
Work parties form an essential part of the
rhythm of life at Scargill. They enable us to spend time enhancing the Scargill
estate and taking care of this special corner of God's creation.
Work parties
enable us to implement and promote ecological and sustainable stewardship of our
90-acre estate, woodland and gardens.
Who can help on a work party?
Anyone!
As long as you’re aged 18 or over and you think you’re fit enough.
What’s involved?
It’s hard work, but there are plenty of opportunities for fun and
sharing something of life's journey as we enjoy each other's company in this
beautiful place. We need help with specific projects, such as:
- Pruning
- Stump
removal
- Preparing the ground for planting
- Strimming, raking & scrub removal
to encourage wildflowers
- Bracken-bashing
- Woodland management.
In bad
weather, we help with refurbishing community or guest accommodation.
What
about bed and board?
Accommodation is provided free of charge, here at Scargill.
We simply ask for a small payment of £7 per day to cover meals and refreshments.
And a programme of events will gently entertain you in the evenings!
When
are the work parties?
Work parties are scheduled well in advance, either
mid-week or over a weekend. Details of forthcoming working parties can be found
in our
programme.
